Bandits rob Chateau Margot housewife of $1.5M

Two bandits, one wielding a cutlass and the other a gun, yesterday morning robbed a Chateau Margot, East Coast Demerara housewife of $1.5M during a confrontation in which one of the robber's accomplices shoved a security guard down the stairway.

Police in a statement said that around 12.50 am yesterday Wendy Lewis, 38, of Chateau Margot Railway Embankment, ECD, was attacked and robbed of $1.5 million by a man armed with a cutlass. Investigations revealed that Lewis was awakened by the sound of noise outside her home. She got up to check and was confronted by the armed man who held her up, ransacked the house and took away the money which was in a suitcase. Security guard Ivor Hartman, who resides in the lower flat of the house, went upstairs to check after hearing the disturbance. He was confronted by another man with a firearm who pushed him down the stairway, causing him to suffer a fractured right hand. The two bandits then escaped.
