According to reports, the incident occurred at around 03:00 hours yesterday when the bandits broke into Cell Point and stole an undisclosed sum of cash from the cash register, several cellular phones and memory cards.

Mayor of Georgetown Hamilton Green

Proprietor of the store, Devanand Singh, said that he would usually have a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera recording the activities in the store during the day, but would turn it off at nights because the store's generator would normally be turned off when the mall closes.

He added that his store was supposed to be protected by internal security in the nights and, as such, he did not install an alarm system.

Singh also said that he is expecting some sort of monetary assistance from the management of the mall.

The men, who were said to be armed, then attempted to rob the Kings Jewellery World branch which is located on the second floor of the building, but this attempt was foiled when the bandits triggered an alarm.

This newspaper understands that there were no signs of forced entry.

“I feel that it's a conspiracy,” proprietor of City Mall, Lennox John, said.

According to him, three security guards were on duty at the time of the robbery.

He added that one of them said that he was attacked and, as such, he ran away, and another one said that the bandits tied his hands behind his back.

“They didn't tie him to anything; they didn't even tie his legs. They tied his hands behind his back,” John added.

He also said that they are not locating the third security guard who was on duty.

John said that the security guards are not armed. He added that the bandits entered through the service entrance.

According to John, the security guards have keys to the service entrance, which leads directly to the public areas of the building.

The generator which powers most of the alarms in the building was turned off.Investigations are continuing.
